Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the sequel to the eighties film known in this part of the world as Ghostbusters, will hit theaters until December 13, 2021, after a one-year delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ghostbusters Afterlife Full Movie Plot Outline

The sequel is directed by Jason Reitman, son of the creator of the saga Ivan Reitman, and will continue the story of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) but will not be related to the female remake Ghostbusters (2016).

And now, more than two months before its premiere, new images of what will be seen in the Sony film have been revealed, giving a look at both the main cast and one of the ghosts that appear in the film.

The cast of this new film includes names such as Paul Rudd ('Ant-Man' in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things). In addition to Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, who repeat their characters in the production, whose plot takes place 30 years after the original and centers on a family that moves to a new city, where they discover the ghostbusters business.

The original film now has cult movie status and was a $ 295 million box office success at its premiere, one of the most successful comedies yet.

Now the fans are waiting for a new installment. This is Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which should be released on November 19 in the United States.

Some lucky ones have been able to see the film in advance and several specialized sites have shared the first reviews.

Overall, the critics' comments are positive, especially for the cast led by Carrie Con, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd.

The cast works very well at an iconic level and they play more complex characters than the first movie, you can tell that the director has a need to create good characters, says Sherin Linden of The Hollywood Reporter.

A similar opinion is held by Variety's Peter Debruge who, while he thinks the film is unnecessary, points out.

“I think it is unnecessary but quite enjoyable. Paul Rudd is very well and wins the audience with laughter. He has a very close spirit to Spielberg in the eighties. In the end it's like the Goonies are Ghostbusters.

Early reviews of Ghostbusters: Afterlife have mostly praised director Jason Reitman's remake of the franchise, with special praise for the new cast.

After it debuted in August to a positive reception, some critics have posted reviews of the sequel ahead of its UK premiere on November 12.

In Den Of Geek's review, comparisons are made to Star Wars: The Force Awakens in that it covers a familiar plot from the originals - but that the new cast elevates what could have been a tired retread.

It's a virtue that when Ghostbusters: Afterlife ends, it leaves you wanting more, says the review. The past is sweetly honored, even for a delicate handling of Ramis's passing, but for the first time in nearly 40 years, another generation can finally claim the Ghostbusters as their own - whether they realize they should laugh or not.

In a Variety review, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is described as an unnecessary but enjoyable movie that does nothing to cloud what has come before.

Despite criticizing the film's tendency to fall into nostalgia, Forbes was equally positive with its winning new leads and solid dialogue.

I will very much defend a continuation with this new cast, one that I hope is less tied to chasing fan approval and less focused on a Force Awakens-style rehash. The critics read. I hate that Ghostbusters: Afterlife exists the way it does. But it's also a mostly well-made movie, with enough singular hits to make it work for those who don't care about Ghostbusters.
